Infamy Series 3/3

As a child I remember watching the tragedy at Waco unfold.  Although David Koresh and the Branch Dividians were without a doubt a little off their rockers, I think the FBI has more blood on its hands for the death of 55 adults, and 28 children. Whether the feds or Koresh were ultimately responsible for the standoff and inferno, it will remain an infamous part of American history.

"Orchid Massacre" (2013)
Part 2/3 of my Infamy series. Features photograph samples of Jim Jones and the scene from the Jonestown massacre. (The parrots included)  There is an ominous, dark, looming feel to this piece. I like it.  The bright tropical colors mimic the phrase that could be used to describe Jonestown: Trouble in paradise.


Here's the gruesome  proof about what these poor parrots saw.

Part one of a three part "Infamy Series".  In this series I feature infamous figures in American history. Number one is G.W. Bush.  Benjamin Franklin's likeness was  a casualty of collage in this case.

Symbolic frolic

Cryptic imagery is fascinating. It's also fascinating to see how the individual views symbols, and what is deduced from their thought processes.  That's the long and the short about this piece. I purposefully invoked some pretty powerful, and somewhat cliché symbols, which, in truth, mean abso-fucking-lutely nothing.

I will admit-  one of the symbols in this piece is a tribute to a shadowy figure who will be written into history as a villian; by the victors- but was truly a revolutionary figure for good.

'Murica

No matter what side of the political aisle you sit on, the atmosphere in Washington  is  infuriating. Instead of collaborating to solve systemic and major issues like the national debt and health care reform, politicians and would rather wage war against each other.  It is for this reason that I have absolutely zero faith, trust and possibly a negative integer's amount of respect for our current governing body.

Quit acting like a bunch of f*cking fourth graders in a food fight and get something done.

The Dance Movement  (2012)
This is an early piece that I did before I really knew what I was doing. It was created as a course promotion flier for the Department of Performing and Fine Arts at Utica College. The course was called "Animation".  I originally called this piece animation as well, but have since changed its name.  The Dance Movement fits the content of the image better.

 My issue with this piece is that there is no depth, it is all composed on a relatively flat plane. Still, it turned out rather whimsical. I used an early Kinetoscope image of a woman dancing and layered different frames over different cells with varying opacity. If you look close, you can see many different poses within one cell.

Lobster Mobsters

I feel guilty for neglecting The End of the Internet the last week or so. My hands were full dealing with a zombie outbreak in Utica. Now that it is over, I will feast and give thanks, for I am a survivor, free from infection.

Chalk It Up To... (2012)

This was the third cohesive collage I was able to create digitally.  At first I had the idea to put a giant lobster on a dining room floor or coming through the door of the dining room, disrupting the guests. Alas my image harvesting would not yield the perfect angle, so it gradually morphed into an outdoor scene.

Although it doesn't really mean anything, I do want to point out that the background is an electron microscope image of a piece of chalk. The ground and the surrealist sky are neatly sliced and layered by the horizon.
